A commemorative collectible coin made of silver, made with a special level of proof minting quality, is dedicated to the symbol of the eastern calendar - the year of the Rat, one of the animals of this calendar, which is based on the twelve-year cycle of Jupiter - the largest planet in the solar system.
The obverse of the coin is divided into three segment fields by two arcs. The central, largest field is filled with an ornament of plants made in the style of primitivism. On the upper segment there is an image of the small State Emblem of Ukraine, below, against the background of the ornament of the middle field along its edge, there is an inscription in a semicircle in a stylized font in two lines - “NATIONAL BANK”, “UKRAINE” (“NATIONAL BANK”, “UKRAINE”). In the center of the ornament there is a two-line inscription in a stylized font with the denomination of the coin - “5 HRYVEN” (“5 HRYVEN”). On the lower segment near the border with an ornament there is a sign of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. Below, in the middle of the segment, the year of issue of the coin is indicated - “2008”. On the left side of the obverse, on the lower segment, there is a one-line inscription indicating the precious metal and its fineness - “Ag 925”. On the right side of the lower segment the mass of silver in purity is indicated in grams - “15.55”.
The reverse of the coin is divided into fields, upper and lower, with a mirror background in the form of segments, and a middle field, limited on both sides by lines in the form of arcs. On the middle field is an image of the symbol of the year - the Rat in popular print style, which is surrounded by a stylized ornament of plants. The Eye of the Rat is decorated with a diamond weighing 0.01 carats. On the upper and lower segments, at the borders with the central field, there are outlined figures of all 12 animals - symbols of the eastern calendar.
